Residents Living on Hillslopes in ‘N’ Ward Urged to Relocate to Safer Locations: Appeal by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appealed to residents living in slum settlements located on hillslopes in the ‘N’ Ward—specifically in areas of Vikhroli Parksite, Vikhroli (West), and Ghatkopar (West)—to voluntarily relocate to safer locations ahead of the monsoon.

The appeal particularly pertains to those residing in the hillock areas of Varshanagar, Ramnagar, Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Rahul Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Khandoba Tekdi, Azad Nagar, Sonia Gandhi Nagar, Prem Nagar, and Anand Nagar.

The ‘N’ Ward office has already issued precautionary notices and advisories to residents of these areas. However, should individuals choose not to relocate, the responsibility for any resulting consequences will lie with them, the Assistant Commissioner of ‘N’ Ward has stated. The civic body will not be held accountable for any loss of life or property caused by natural calamities.

During the monsoon, there is a heightened risk of landslides, water runoff from hills triggering mudslides, structural collapses of houses, and the flooding of nullahs—raising the possibility of slum dwellings being swept away.

Given the warnings, the BMC reiterates its call for residents in these vulnerable areas to take precautionary measures and voluntarily shift to safer grounds to avoid potential tragedies. The appeal comes as part of the civic authority’s ongoing monsoon preparedness and disaster mitigation efforts.
