Governor Urges Human-Centric Approach In Women and Child Welfare Schemes

Emphasizes empathy and grassroots monitoring in review of ‘Mission Shakti’ and ‘One Stop Centres’

Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan has urged the Women and Child Development Department to adopt a more empathetic and human-centric approach in implementing its various welfare schemes. He emphasized that economic growth alone is meaningless if the status of women and children does not improve.

The Governor was speaking during a review meeting at Raj Bhavan, focused on flagship schemes such as ‘Mission Shakti’ and ‘One Stop Centres’, which are designed to support women and vulnerable children.

Present at the meeting were Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, department secretary Dr. Anup Kumar Yadav, commissioner Nayana Gunde, UMED mission CEO Nilesh Sagar, and ICDS commissioner Kailas Pagare, along with other senior officials.

The Governor noted that the department bears immense responsibility towards orphaned children, women, and the most marginalized sections of society. He called for special efforts to reduce school dropout rates among tribal children and emphasized the importance of spreading awareness about free higher education, accommodation, and food provisions available to tribal youth.

Calling the government’s reservation policy for orphans in public sector jobs “revolutionary”, the Governor stressed the need for direct field engagement by ministers and officials. “They must visit villages, meet beneficiaries in person, and understand ground-level challenges,” he said.

Governor Radhakrishnan also reviewed the progress of the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme, which aims to enhance women’s financial independence. He emphasized the need for teamwork and emotional sensitivity while executing welfare programs, especially in rural and tribal areas.

Minister Aditi Tatkare briefed the Governor on the department’s key schemes, while secretary Dr. Yadav and CEO Nilesh Sagar made detailed presentations on state and central initiatives, including the Maharashtra State Rural Livelihood Mission.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to ensure that all schemes reach intended beneficiaries effectively, with dignity and compassion.
