Heavy rainfall over the past three days disrupted power supply in Mahad after a large tree fell on a power line near Dr. Aditya Mahamunkar Hospital, damaging an electric pole and overhead wires. The incident led to power outages of up to six hours in several parts of the city. MSEDCL officials, along with the Municipal Council, carried out restoration work despite continuous rain and muddy conditions. Residents have urged authorities to remove hazardous trees and branches to prevent similar incidents during the ongoing monsoon.
Mahad (Representative): The continuous heavy rainfall in Mahad city over the past three days has also affected the power supply. Around Monday afternoon, a large tree fell on a power line near Dr. Aditya Mahamunkar Hospital, causing an electric pole to bend and resulting in major damage to the power lines. To prevent any possible accident, MSEDCL immediately shut down the power supply in the city.
As a result of this incident, power supply was restored in the Mahad ST Stand area after about three hours. However, electricity remained disrupted for more than six hours in several areas, including Dasturi Naka, Sarekar Aali, Chavdar Tale area, Tambat Aali, the Tehsildar Office area, and Pansari Mohalla. This caused inconvenience to the residents.
As soon as information about the incident was received, senior officials, engineers, and employees of MSEDCL reached the spot. Employees of the Municipal Council's Electrical Department and other concerned agencies also joined the restoration work. Local corporator Hemant Chandorkar also visited the site and inspected the situation.
MSEDCL undertook the work of removing the fallen tree from the power line, repairing the bent electric pole, and restoring the power supply on a war footing. However, continuous rainfall and muddy conditions created obstacles in the repair work. It took around six hours for the power supply to be fully restored.
Before the monsoon, MSEDCL had taken shutdowns lasting several hours during the peak summer season to carry out the work of trimming dangerous trees and branches in the city. This year, after the delayed onset of the monsoon, both MSEDCL and the Municipal Council had sufficient time to remove such hazardous trees and branches. However, since some dangerous trees and branches were left untouched, such incidents are occurring. As the intensity of rainfall is expected to increase in the coming days, citizens are demanding that these dangerous trees be removed during breaks in the rain to prevent any untoward incidents in the future.
